Why we do it

The vital difference for young people who come from disadvantaged backgrounds and ‘succeed’, versus those who don’t, is having access to role models, meaningful social capital and opportunities

Its an old adage but it still rings true today, ‘it’s not what you know, but who you know’. At Youth Social Capital we are doing everything we can to level the playing field of life. We want to see all young people, whatever their background, able to progress onto meaningful careers and fulfilling lives.

A key barrier to that success is the ability of some young people to have high aspirations and broad horizons, but that is not enough, because while talent is evenly spread about, opportunity is not. Unfortunately, there is a massive gulf between what many young people can hope to achieve and what they can realistically expect to achieve.

Our solution is to ensure every young person has the skills they need and the chance to access the individuals and networks necessary to be part of and benefit from the opportunities needed for their success.
